Accessible Accommodation photography that doesn't scream Hospital Stay

Accessible accommodation photography shouldn’t feel staged, exaggerated, or symbolic — and guests with disabilities can spot that instantly.

What people are really looking for is clarity. Can I move comfortably through this space? Will this bathroom work for me? Are entrances genuinely step-free? Is there room to turn, sit, rest?

Photographing accessibility well means focusing on practical details without turning them into a marketing gimmick. It’s about respectful, honest documentation — not highlighting accessibility as an “extra”, but as part of how the home functions.

This approach benefits everyone. Clear imagery builds trust, reduces back-and-forth questions, and helps guests decide if the property genuinely suits their needs.

For hosts, inclusive photography expands your potential audience. For guests, it removes uncertainty — which is often the biggest barrier to booking.

Good accessible photography isn’t loud. It’s calm, informative, and quietly confident. And done properly, it makes accommodation feel welcoming rather than performative.

That’s great- But how do I photograph it?

Book a photographer that has a reputation and knowledge for understanding the needs of both property photography and accessible photography.

And since you’re reading the blog of a photographer who does specialise in both, you’ve found what you need to get started.

👉 Notice the photos in this blog- they don't seem different than any other shoot, but to wheelchair users the wide spacing around furniture and the concrete flooring is a huge tick!

Showing the space around the bed and the roof hoist, subtle, but it's there!

The kitchen photo shows the positioning of the microwave and the width of the kitchen, again, a big tick for people in a wheelchair.

lastly, the entrance way shows the ramp, the space and the possible turning circle.

Highlighting accessible features, but in a subtle way.

Regardless of what type of house you have, I will always ask a series of questions, send out a questionnaire and get a full understanding of what clients you are hoping to attract- then we’ll work from there.

I have a “pretty and practical” approach to accessibility in the tourism industry- I created the photography packages to allow people of all backgrounds and abilities to enjoy the booking journey as much as anyone else, this includes not being made to feel like the place they are booking is a hospital.

Accessibility equipment has a tendency to look very clinical- however there is absolutely ways around this.

In addition to photography, I am also qualified in floor plans and have been drawing them up for over 2 decades- so I have created an accessible floor plan package as well- which goes beyond the standard realestate looking floor plan.

But I will share more on that another day.

Head over to my website and check out what’s available, and get in touch via the enquiry page to start the process.

As always, signing off with what I'm currently listening to while I edit: Nothing- I haven't found a new podcast in awhile, so if you have ideas, let me know. I always default back to "Stuff You Should Know" It's always a solid choice.

Wishing you 5 star reviews and good guests, Kirstie-Lee
